Installing QZ Tray on Windows

In order to set up QZ Tray, you will need to follow a series of steps. Please contact the relevant support team if you require assistance or have any questions.

First, navigate to the QZ Tray Download page. Once you are on the page, select the most recent stable release, which can be identified by the green button on the left side of the page with a red arrow pointing to it. The orange button on the right side of the page is a pre-release version and is not recommended. For example, the latest stable release in the screenshot provided is version 2.1.

Once you have selected the appropriate version, download the installation file to your computer and execute it. A Windows User Account Control prompt will appear, allowing the installation file to run. Once the file is executed, you will be presented with the QZ Tray Setup Wizard.

During installation, the QZ Tray Setup will check your computer to see if you have Java installed. If you do not have Java installed, you will be prompted to download and install it. Once Java is installed, the QZ Tray installer will resume.

Once the installation is complete, QZ Tray should run automatically. To ensure that QZ Tray will always work with Despatch Cloud, right-click on the QZ Tray icon in the taskbar and ensure that the "Automatically start" option is selected.

On this page, you will find the latest stable release (indicated by the green button on the left with a red arrow pointing to it; the orange button on the right is a pre-release version and is not recommended). For example, the latest stable release in the screenshot below is v2.1.

  1. Click on the latest stable release to download the installation file.
  2. Execute the downloaded qz-tray-2.1.6+3.pkg file to begin the installation process.

Once you have downloaded the installation file to your computer, please open up a terminal and type the following commands:

    1. cd Downloads
    2. chmod +x qz-tray-2.1.6+3.run
    3. DEBUG=true sudo -E ./qz-tray-2.1.6+3.run
  • The first command will navigate into your downloads folder.
  • The second command will make the downloaded file an executable file.
  • The third command will run the setup file and handle the installation. You will be prompted to enter your user password once you enter the command in the terminal.

If you do not have Java Runtime installed, you will see an error message.

To install Java Runtime, please execute the following commands in your terminal:

  1. sudo apt update
  2. sudo apt install default-jre

Once you see the output "Do you want to continue? [Y/n]" after executing the second command, please type "Y" in the terminal and press enter.

You will see "done" in the terminal output once the Java Runtime installation is finalized. We can now continue with our QZ Tray installation.

Type the following command once again in your terminal:

  • DEBUG=true sudo -E ./qz-tray-2.1.6+3.run

If you get any pop-ups regarding the HTTPS certificates during installation, please press "yes" to continue. This will install the https certificates for the program, which is a more secure way of communicating between devices and websites.

If you see the [success] Task spawn was successful after running the last command, you should now be done with the installation.

QZ Tray should be visible as a green printer icon in your status bar.
